The document specifies that O’Neal’s demise was attributed to congestive heart failure, a condition he had battled for an extended period due to cardiomyopathy. British Heart Foundation explains cardiomyopathy as an inherited heart muscle disease impacting its size, shape, and structure.

The Cleveland Clinic describes congestive heart failure as a chronic condition where the heart struggles to effectively pump blood, leading to the accumulation of blood and fluids in the lungs and legs over time. Medications and other treatments are utilized to alleviate symptoms such as swelling, but for many, congestive heart failure is a life-limiting condition.

Recently, the actor’s death was announced by one of O’Neal’s children. On the afternoon of December 8, Patrick shared the news on social media, saying, “So this is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say, but here we go.”

He further added, “My dad peacefully passed away today, surrounded by his loving team, supporting and cherishing him just as he did for us.”

Later in the day, the late actor’s daughter, Tatum O’Neal, conveyed her deep sorrow in a statement to People, saying, “I feel great sorrow with my father’s passing. He meant the world to me. I loved him very much and know he loved me too. I’ll miss him forever, and I feel very lucky that we ended on such good terms.”O’Neal was last seen receiving assistance to enter his vehicle on November 6, 2023, in Brentwood, California. He was guided from a wheelchair to the front seat by two caretakers, who lifted him from under his arm as he moved down the sidewalk.The actor had a son named Redmond O’Neal, 38, with Fawcett. He is also survived by his daughter Tatum O’Neal, 50, and son Griffin O’Neal, 59, from his first marriage to Joanna Moore.
